FAQs

At the front, in the outdoor play area there is a small pram store for you to use. We ask that you fold up your pushchair before storing it.

We will happily help with toilet-training and your child’s key person will talk to you about your plans and routines and offer strategies if needed. Using a potty or toilet is an important new skill for your child to learn. It is best to go at your child’s pace and begin when you have time to focus on it as a family. Talk to any other people who care for your child too, as this will help to establish manageable routines. Being consistent will help your child. Every child is different so there is no set time for gaining this skill. Be patient, expect accidents and be prepared with lots of spare clothes and shoes and know that it will happen! For further information please see ‘Skylark Toilet-training Policy’.

During the settling in visit, we will ask you about your child’s eating. We record if your child has any allergies or intolerances and how your child reacts. Alternatives will be provided to suit your child’s diet. All staff will be made aware of any allergies too. Our food is prepared every day and it can be served pureed or ‘lumpy’ to suit the stage your child is at. We always offer extra portions of the main course if your child wants them. We find that children will be more open to trying new foods when they see their friends eating. The children sit together in small groups at a table so they can socialise as they are eating, and we have highchairs too. If children are reluctant to try a food, we suggest they have “a sniff, a lick and a bite!” It does work and can lead to them eating more. We will also ask them to eat “4 spoonful’s if they are 4 years old,” for example. Again, this really does work. We will record in the link book what your child has eaten each time they are at nursery and/or the staff will discuss any concerns at home-time.

Yes you can. Just let us know the details of the voucher company once you have set it up.

All funding begins from the term after your child’s birthday. For example if your child is two on 7th September 2021 they will be eligible from January 2022. If your child is eligible for 2 year funding, which is 15 hours per week during term-time (based on the school term dates), you will receive a ‘Golden Ticket’ directly from North Yorkshire County Council . Please bring the ticket to nursery along with your child’s birth certificate or passport and we will process it for you. All children are eligible for 15 hours of childcare from the term after their third birthday. However, you may be eligible for 30 hours free childcare. For further information and to apply search the North Yorkshire County Council website for ‘Early Years Funding’. You will need to pay childcare costs over and above the 15 or 30 hours free entitlement plus all food costs.
