The areas

Sunbeams area

(6m-2 years)

Has a large, carpeted space plus wet area for ‘messy play’. It includes a sink for handwashing too.

There is also a quiet sensory room with sound and lighting displays which the children can learn to turn on and off as they develop their fine-motor skills.

There is a separate sleep room containing cots with a large window over-looking the play area. All bedding is changed and laundered after every child’s use.

Children engage in lots of sensory play including painting, water, sand, foam and music with instruments. They also enjoy physical play with large apparatus to climb and roll, and walkers to push along , whilst developing imaginary play in the role-play area.

The Sunbeams Area has an outdoor space too.

Baby Changing

There is a separate baby changing room alongside the area. We ask that you send nappies, wipes, and any nappy cream for us to use for your child.

Rainbows area

(2 years-3 years)

This is a flexible space with low tables and floor space for role-play, water play, creative activities, and story-time. Plus parachute games, music and small world exploration.

It includes a quiet area beneath the mezzanine which is where there is also a sleep space for napping on little beds. This area has a washbasin and changing area too.

In the Rainbows Area there is access to our mezzanine giving space for more gross motor physical play.

Little Stars area

(3 years—5 years)

Has areas for construction, creative play, role-play, and water. There is a story and listening area, a play-dough table and loose parts play and they can free-flow into the outdoors.

There is a self-service system at snack time.

Adult-led small groups activities take place twice a day for 15 minutes along with singing sessions.

The children can help themselves to resources and tools which they need to solve a problem or complete a task with growing independence.

The bathroom is next door to the Little Stars Area. It has toilets and washbasins at different heights to suit everyone and a changing table too.

The cloakroom in the porch has both pigeon-holes and pegs with the children’s names on for the ‘Little Stars’ to store their own coats and bags independently.

The Mezzanine

Skylark also has a large mezzanine which can be accessed by stairs from both the Rainbows and Little Stars Area.

It provides added space for large scale construction or role-play activities for either area.

It can also be a place for a quiet story with a group and it is our indoor physical play space where the children enjoy our ‘Mini-gymini’ sessions.
