What is this area like?
On entering the building through the hallway there is an area used for construction and a story corner with a listening centre. There is a creative area, sand and water toys, and a computer. Activities are mainly led by the children’s interests, whilst planned to include activities relating to festivals and the seasons too. Children will play independently or alongside an adult, on tasks in small groups or individually throughout the day. They will have free access to the outside area for most of the day, throughout the year. The children are encouraged to learn routines, to access equipment for themselves, dress themselves in coats and wellies etc. and share with other children in preparation for school. The children love Jolly Phonics and follow the Letters and Sound scheme which continues into school.
There is an eating area for snack & lunch times.
The kitchen has a low level breakfast bar and overlooks the Foundation Area and the children enjoy watching and taking part in regular cookery opportunities.
Your child will begin to move into the Foundation area on or around his/her third birthday, at a pace that suits his/her developmental needs. Their key person will discuss this with you.
8.00am - 9.00am - Welcome and breakfast for those that would like it. As children arrive they will be offered supported free flow play opportunities.
9.00am-9.30am Mini-Gymini’s up on the raised play area.
9.30am – 11.00am - Staff and children sing the ‘Good morning’ song, and discuss what activities are available that day in line with the weekly planning sheet for the day’s learning opportunities. Nappy changing/toileting will take place during this time. Children are encouraged to help themselves to snack at approx 9.30am. The following opportunities will be available for the children to experience: water, sand, story-time, painting, outdoor play, dancing, singing, heuristic play, floor toys, construction blocks, role play, baking, small world, mark making, musical toys, Beach Schools, trips, together time with
key persons etc
11.00am - 11.30am - Focused activities followed by group singing time.
11.30am - 12.15pm - Lunch time in small sociable groups of mixed ages. Food is served to the children by the staff. Tooth brushing and tidy up afterwards.
12.15pm - 1.00pm - Story time followed by sleep or quiet activity time. Some children are prepared for home time with feedback to parents. Children will sleep according to your wishes.
1.00pm - 4.00pm - Follow the weekly planning sheet for the day’s learning opportunities. Nappy changing/toileting will take place during this time. Children will be encouraged to help themselves to snack at approximately 2pm. The following opportunities will be available for the children to experience: water, sand, story-time, painting, outdoor play, dancing, singing, heuristic play, floor toys, treasure baskets, musical toys, trips, together time with key persons etc.
4.00pm – 4.30pm Tea-time in small groups, again as at lunch.
4.30 - 6.00pm – Evening play time, nappy changing, preparing children for home time, and feedback to parents.
